What students say:
Why JMC Preparation Is Different
The Junior Maths Challenge isn’t just school maths. It tests the “hidden curriculum” of topics that sit at the edge of what you learn in class. Divisibility tests, angle reasoning in polygons, algebra in unfamiliar contexts, magic squares – these are the topics that separate Bronze from Silver, and Silver from Gold.
Most students preparing for the JMC either:
- ❌ Just practise past papers without understanding the underlying concepts
- ❌ Try to learn from scattered resources across the internet
- ❌ Pay £50-100/hour for private tuition
Go for Gold gives you systematic, expert teaching on every topic that matters, then 75 original questions to apply them to – at a fraction of the cost of private tuition.
Master the JMC “Hidden Curriculum”
This course covers every topic that appears regularly in the Junior Maths Challenge. Each topic includes:
- Worked examples and problem-solving strategies
- Expert teaching videos breaking down the concepts
- Interactive quizzes to check your understanding
🔢 Number Theory
Divisibility tests for 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9 and for composite numbers, prime numbers, square, cube and triangular numbers, and last digits of products.
You’ll learn techniques like: testing a large number for divisibility in your head, and finding a last digit without doing the whole calculation.

📐 Geometry
Polygon names and properties, interior and exterior angles, isosceles triangles, parallel line theorems, and the types of quadrilateral.
You’ll tackle questions like: “What is the interior angle of a regular polygon with this many sides?” and “Find the missing angle in this diagram” for some very tricky questions.
📊 Algebra
How to solve algebra problems (and how to solve some of them without algebra at all), algebra in word problems, and algebra in geometry problems.
You’ll learn techniques like: forming an equation from a worded puzzle, and spotting when a shortcut beats setting up algebra.

🧩 Magic Squares and Counting Problems
The unusual problem types that come up regularly in the Junior Maths Challenge and catch students out: counting and colouring problems, and magic squares.
You’ll learn techniques like: systematic listing so you count every case exactly once, and using the total to pin down a magic square.
Then Apply What You’ve Learned
Try 75 practice questions arranged into 3 practice papers, all written by Kevin exclusively for this course. Each question has a video solution but also a video hint to give you the best chance of solving the question yourself, almost like you were in a 1-1 lesson with Kevin.
Because the questions are original, you can still use the real past papers separately for timed practice.
